Twitter truly is the best social media channel for connecting with people. From the beginning, the platform has been focused on having conversations–it’s all about chatting. However, a lot of travel bloggers have trouble with engagement on Twitter and shy away from it. It’s a fast-moving platform, so it’s easy to get lost among all of the tweets and tweeters. Travel chats on Twitter are a great solution for this issue.
Joining Travel Twitter chats gives you the chance to interact with the travel community, including travelers, travel brands, and fellow travel bloggers.
Twitter chats are one of the best ways to up your overall engagement on the platform. For an hour (or however long the Twitter chat lasts), you’re part of a conversation with a dedicated group of people who are all interested in the same thing as you. Once you get talking, it’s so easy to find other people to follow, and it’s almost impossible to come out of a chat without new followers.
Of course, gaining followers isn’t necessarily the main reason to join in on these travel Twitter chats. It’s nice to see your follower count go up (even if it’s only a couple of people), but the idea is that you’re finding new people to connect with long-term, not just invisible followers.
Because what you want is engagement, right? You want people following you on Twitter who will actually interact with your tweets, and you want to find people you can interact with too.
Travel chats on Twitter will help you find those people.
Maybe I should back up for a second, though. Some of you may not even understand what Twitter chats are or how they work. I’ll give you the basics:
- Twitter chats are a group conversation held on Twitter, based around a specific topic. They are usually formatted as a Q&A.
- Twitter chats have a dedicated #hashtag that you can use to make sure everyone joining in sees your tweets. That’s how you follow along with the chat.
- A chat might be hosted by one person, multiple people, or there might be new co-hosts every time (this usually happens with chats hosted by brands)
- Twitter chats are held at a scheduled time, most seem to be held weekly, but some might be monthly.
- During a Twitter chat, the host(s) will post the question in the format “Q1 here’s the question #hashtag” and anyone joining in will reply with their answers in the format “A1 here’s my answer #hashtag”.
- Beyond that, reply to other peoples’ response & continue the discussion!
Okay, now back to the best travel Twitter chats!
There are tons of travel-focused Twitter chats to join. Some are general travel chats, and some are more niche. There are travel chats for luxury travel, budget travel, food travel, and probably any other style of travel you can think of (and if not, you can always start your own!).
These are the the travel Twitter chats that I know of. I’ve joined in on quite a few of them, and I’ve done a lot of research to discover new ones to add to the list. If you know of any others travel chats on Twitter, please feel free to send the info along so I can add it! And of course if you see any incorrect info, I will update it ASAP.
I am not affiliated with any of these Twitter chats, I just want to support these chats and help you guys find a few you can join.
