I lived across the street from Teton Village this past summer while working in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, but it took me over a month to make my way over there. I will be writing more about Teton Village later, but this post is about the Bridger Gondola. It’s one of the many popular attractions in Teton Village, and the one I was most interested in.
The Bridger Gondola takes visitors on a scenic ride up Rendezvous Mountain, to a little over 9,000 feet. It doesn’t take you to the very top of the mountain like the Aerial Tram does, but the view is still spectacular. Better yet, the gondola is FREE from 5-9 pm, while the tram costs over $30 per person. It can get crowded pretty quickly, so going early is best.
The Bridger Gondola runs only in the summer. It operates from 9 am to 9 pm, but is only free after 5 pm.
The gondolas each hold up to 8 people, but it seems they won’t stick more than 6 in one car unless you’ve got a big group. My friend and I were in a car with just two other people, so there was no overcrowding (which would be bad for my claustrophobic inclinations).
I can’t say exactly how long the ride to the top was, since I was too busy staring out over the valley in awe. But it was probably around 10-15 minutes. Every so often I just kept thinking, “wow, it keeps going, huh?”. 9,000 feet is pretty high. I’m just glad it was an enclosed car.
At the top of the Bridger Gondola is Rendezvous Lodge, which is home to a couple of restaurants: The Deck and Coulouir. Most people head up on the Bridger Gondola to sit outside on “The Deck” for happy hour specials, drinks, small bites, and live music. It’s a fun and lively atmosphere; the perfect way to spend a summer evening.
I didn’t eat or drink while I was there, though. I just went for the view, and WOW, it incredible. Teton Village down below looks so tiny from up there, and so does the rest of the valley. The (huge) ranch I work on is on the other side of the road, and it was really cool to get a birds eye view of it.
