Looking for the BEST carry-on suitcase for flying? Here’s my full review of the Chester Minima Carry-on Suitcase!
In my early days of traveling, I packed my things into hand-me-down luggage, or whatever random bags I happened to have.
In 2016, I bought my first piece of carry-on luggage: a nice Osprey backpack for my New Zealand working holiday. But I promptly got rid of it because it wasn’t quite right for my travel needs. Even when I’m on a backpacker budget, I am not a backpacker at heart. So I swapped it out for a cheap, tiny rolling suitcase, and that’s what I’ve been using ever since.
Sure, my little suitcase has treated me well for years, but it wasn’t quite right anymore. Before my 2 month trip to Portugal earlier this year, I realized it was time to move on to something slightly bigger and much better.
I talked about my favorite travel laptop bag recently, and purchasing that inspired me to make good luggage a priority in my travel life. I had the perfect bag for my in-flight essentials, but I was still searching for the best carry-on suitcase.
Before heading to Portugal, I considered buying new luggage last minute. I love packing light, but the little suitcase I had was just too little for my current needs. I knew I could get something slightly bigger without giving up my carry-on only status.
However, I decided to wait until after returning from Portugal to go suitcase shopping, and I’m so glad I did. I considered buying a hard shell suitcase from a popular luggage company, but I was hesitant to buy right away.
So when I received an email from another suitcase brand wanting to collaborate, it felt like fate.

A Note on this Review
I rarely accept collaborations or partnerships, because it’s rare that the product on offer is something I’d actually recommend to my audience. But when I read this email and checked their website, I realized that this product just might be something worth sharing.
With all of the packing tips and posts I’ve been working on lately, I knew it would be worthwhile to find the best carry-on suitcase to recommend to you guys (especially since it’s a question I get quite often). So I agreed to test out the Chester carry-on luggage and provide a full, honest review.
I received the suitcase in May (it arrived just before I got home from Portugal), and I’ve been testing it out for the last couple of months to make sure it was worth my seal of approval.
So here’s my honest review of the Chester Minima Carry-On Suitcase.

Chester Minima Carry-On Spinner Suitcase Review
The Minima Spinner is a hard shell suitcase, and the perfect carry-on size for flying!
The first thing I noticed after unboxing my suitcase was how sleek it looks. I was honestly afraid that I’d receive it, only to realize it didn’t look nearly as nice in person as it did on the website. But I was pleasantly surprised.
The other things I loved right away were the 360 wheel, and the fact that it’s a super lightweight suitcase. But let’s get a little more detailed…

I love the look of this lightweight suitcase. I think it looks modern, sleek, and simple, which is what I prefer for my luggage. I don’t want anything flashy, which I guess is why I chose to get mine in black.
It’s available in 7 colors: black, charcoal gray, aluminum gray, ocean blue, sky blue, pink, and sand.
The minima suitcase is 21.5” x 13.5” x 8.5″, which means it fits within TSA and IATA cabin baggage guidelines. It’s the perfect size carry-on luggage because it maximizes space while still fitting within most airline restrictions.
It has a 38-liter capacity (my previous suitcase was 30 liters—just a bit too small), so plenty of space to pack all your stuff. Weighing in at just 7 pounds, it won’t add a bunch of extra weight, so it’s easy to carry around.
If you’ve ever struggled with your rolling suitcase getting stuck, then you’ll love the spinning wheels on the Chester carry-on. I had so much fun testing out the wheels to make sure they spin, roll, and work in every direction. The super smooth wheels on this spinner luggage won’t slow you down!
This hard shell suitcase is made with polycarbonate. It’s a super lightweight and durable material, plus it’s water-resistant.
My last suitcase was soft shell, and oh man, getting stuck in the rain wasn’t just annoying: it meant my clothes would be completely soaked. I don’t have to worry about that with this suitcase!
Let’s take a look inside the Chester Minima Suitcase. It has two large zippered compartments, making it easy to pack and organize, while still being able to easily close and zip up your suitcase.
I’m a big fan of packing cubes, and I love that this carry-on luggage makes it easy to organize my stuff even more. I keep my shoes, toiletries, and bulky stuff on one side, and my clothes in packing cubes on the other side.
One of the compartments has some nooks and crannies to deal with around the handle, but that’s the case with most suitcases of this style. I find that packing shoes and bulky items on this side works best to maximize space.
In addition to the two large compartments, each side has extra zip compartments. There are a couple of small mesh compartments that are great for storing jewelry, small items, a book, etc. Then there’s a large pocket that works for packing underwear, socks, or anything that just needs to be packed away from everything else.
There is also a laundry bag included inside the suitcase, which is so helpful. You can easily separate dirty clothes from clean ones, and even do your laundry on the road.
One of my favorite features of this carry-on suitcase is the built-in TSA approved lock. I have a TSA padlock that I’ve been using for years, switching it between my suitcase, my lockers, etc. while traveling. I’m excited to have a built-in lock on my luggage so I don’t have to worry about losing my lock.
Chester offers a generous 100 day trial period with their suitcases. So if you buy it and don’t like it, you can return it and get your money back. They believe in their product, and now I can say honestly that I do too.
Chester also has a great 10 Year Limited Warranty on their product. That means any damage to parts of the suitcase that make it unusable will be fixed free of cost. For example, a broken wheel or cracked shell would be covered under the warranty. Normal wear, of course, is not covered.
Be sure to read the warranty page for full details. It definitely gives me a lot of confidence knowing I won’t have to buy a whole new suitcase if something breaks. It really is an investment piece (at an affordable price) you can keep for a long time.
Final Thoughts on the Chester Carry-On Suitcase
Now that I’ve had the Chester Minima Carry-on for 3 months, I can say that I’m really happy with it. It’s the perfect size: it has that little bit of extra room I needed compared to my old suitcase, while still being carry-on size. It took me a while to get used to packing differently with this new suitcase layout, but the separate compartments have worked out really well for my packing needs.
Plus it looks really nice, the quality is great, and it’s something I can travel with for years to come. I finally feel like I’ve found the best carry-on suitcase to fill my grown-up luggage collection.
