Hotel Star Inn Lisbon Aeroporto is the best place to stay in Lisbon, Portugal on your way in or out of the city. It’s right at the airport so you can easily catch an early morning flight or get some sleep as soon as you land. Read on for my full review.
My stay at the Hotel Star Inn was extremely short. I arrived just after 4 pm on my final day in Lisbon (after spending 2 months in Portugal), and was out the door by 4 am the following morning to catch my flight out of the country.
But I enjoyed my 12 hours there, and was grateful for the style, the comfort, the cleanliness, and the friendly staff.
It is one of only two hotels operating at Lisbon’s Humberto Delgado Airport, making it a clear choice when you need to be close by. With a flight departing at 6 am, I wasn’t going to risk it and try to catch a taxi or public transport from the city center at 4 o’clock in the morning.
While I wouldn’t recommend this hotel as your main accommodation to explore Lisbon, I absolutely recommend it for the convenience of being at the airport!
Hotel Star Inn – Lisbon Airport
Location: Best Hotel Near Lisbon Airport
You can’t skip talking about location when it comes to accommodation, and in fact, at the Hotel Star Inn, location is everything!
It is located a short walk from the main terminal (like, you couldn’t get any closer), making airport transport extremely simple. Considering public transport, taxis, and even airport shuttles aren’t running much early in the morning (why did I book a 6 am flight!), being able to walk over on my own cut out the stress of trying to get to the airport on time.
My room was small (there was just enough room to walk around the furniture), but it was nicely-decorated, extremely clean, and very comfortable.
I slept well in the cozy queen-sized bed, and I appreciated the desk space so I could get some work done before flying out.
The bathroom was actually quite large compared to the room. It was simple, but it had everything needed, and it was very clean as well (my main concern in any hotel).
The Hotel Star Inn provides plenty of amenities for travelers, including the basics you really need.
- Café and Bar in the lobby
- Free Wifi
- Free Airport Shuttle (if you don’t want to walk, this will take you a short distance to the terminal entryway)
- Mini bar in-room with a selection of drinks
The main thing I personally had an issue with while staying here was the food selection. While they do have a small café and bar, as a vegetarian there was nothing available that I could eat, and there weren’t any snack bar or vending machine options either.
Because of the location and timing of my stay, getting to a restaurant or market was extremely difficult, and I ended up not eating anything until I got to the airport the next morning. This was poor planning on my part, but I do wish they had more basic food options in the hotel.
This leads into the other issue, which is its general isolation. Since it is located at the airport, there isn’t a lot within the immediate vicinity, other than hopping over to the airport terminals. That’s why I said earlier that I wouldn’t recommend it for your full stay in Lisbon; it would not be ideal for sightseeing or visiting restaurants, etc.
Why I Recommend It
Despite the two issues mentioned above (which were to be expected anyways), I highly recommend staying here on your way in or out of Lisbon.
An airport hotel doesn’t have to dazzle; the main draw is the convenience of being able to catch an early flight, or flop into bed shortly after arriving in your destination.
But Hotel Star Inn manages to make you feel like it’s more than just convenience.
The style, comfort, and staff made it a wonderful stay for my final night in Portugal.
And my favorite little thing? The post-it note on the back of the door with a list of things you might forget on your way out. A very simple yet helpful detail.
