Head to Cafe Galeria House of Wonders in Cascais, Portugal for vegetarian food, fresh juice, and a beautiful rooftop lounge!
…
The first two things I look for when I visit a new destination are coffee shops and vegetarian-friendly restaurants. I cook a lot of my meals in my accommodation while traveling (hostels & Airbnbs!), but I like being able to go out to restaurants too. It’s part of the experience of traveling!
As a vegetarian, the easiest way to make sure I can get a meal I like that is definitely 100% devoid of meat is by going to a vegetarian/vegan place. It makes ordering so much easier, especially in a place where I don’t speak the language.
I found some great veggie-friendly places in Lisbon, and I found one really AMAZING place in the seaside town of Cascais, Portugal.
Take a look at the pictures and you’ll quickly be adding it to your itinerary (even if you’re not a vegetarian). And the food is just as good as the views!
Café Galeria Cascais
Café Galeria House of Wonders is spread out over two floors, plus a rooftop lounge. When you walk in, you’ll be greeted by an employee, and they will explain how everything works. There is a dining area on the first floor, a café area on the second floor where you can order drinks, and then the rooftop (on top, of course).
Veggie Food
Let’s start by talking about the food, since that’s what brought me here to begin with. The restaurant has menu items to order, but the real deal is the mezze.
They’ll have a handful of dishes for the day and make a plate for you with a little bit of everything. This could include things like salads, potatoes, pita & hummus, rice, etc. Really delicious, it makes a nice large plate of food, and there’s a good variety of foods.

Drinks & Café
Whether you order food, or just want a drink, you’ll stop by the café area on the second floor. Here you can order coffee and espresso drinks, fresh juices, and other beverages.
Like many places in Portugal, coffee drinks are made using espresso from a small Nespresso machine. Which means you shouldn’t expect gourmet, specialty coffee when you come here, but that’s not the appeal of this place anyways.

Rooftop Lounge
And now we make it to the top of the stairs, to the main attraction of Café Galeria: the rooftop! This bright and colorful lounge is filled with a range of seating options, from table and chairs, to a small bar, to big comfy cushions.
There’s quite a bit of space up here, but I’m sure it gets very full during busier seasons. You can have your food brought to you up on the roof, which is what I did, or you can just grab a drink and hangout for a while. It’s a great spot to hangout for the afternoon, and the views are amazing!
The one issue I had here was the PIGEONS. We all know they’re a nuisance, but I’ve never experienced such aggressive birds. I’d recommend eating in the dining area inside, and just coming up to the roof for a drink. Problem solved!
Café Galeria was such a great find. Good food, good drinks, but just being able to hangout on the roof for a while was the best part. If I return to Cascais, I’ll definitely be making time to come back here.
